Abstract

MRI provides better soft tissue and lesion contrast than any other imaging modalities and is best for the diagnosis of cranial neuropathy. Recently developed high resolution techniques enabled detailed visualization of various cranial nerves as well as their accompanying structures. Anatomical knowledge is important in identification of cranial neuropathy. The course, characteristics of enhancement and relationship with adjacent normal structures are easily assessed by high resolution MRI. Various inflammatory causes, neoplastic conditions and anatomical variants are related with cranial neuropathy. MRI with optimized pulse sequence will be needed to accurate lesion localization and definite diagnosis.
